ISO 14001 Implementation Success at GENESYS

Client: GENESYS Systems Integrator
Industry: Industrial Automation & Custom Manufacturing Systems
Engagement: ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System Implementation

About GENESYS

GENESYS is a specialized systems integrator that designs and delivers custom automated production systems for manufacturing clients worldwide. From concept to installation, they engineer high-performance machinery, fabricate unique components, and manage global implementation—maximizing quality, throughput, and ROI.

Their services span:

  • Design & Engineering

  • Fabrication & Procurement

  • Installation & Field Services

  • Manufacturing Automation Solutions

Project Background

Although GENESYS had built a reputation for innovation and precision in manufacturing automation, they had no previous exposure to ISO compliance frameworks. The company recognized ISO 14001:2015 as a strategic opportunity—not just for regulatory alignment, but for environmental responsibility, client assurance, and competitive differentiation.

However, navigating the environmental management standard for the first time presented several challenges: lack of prior ISO experience, shifting internal resources, and the need to align compliance without disrupting core engineering and field service operations.

Alex’s Role

Alex Lackey was brought in to lead GENESYS through the ISO 14001 implementation process. His role included:

  • Learning GENESYS’s full operational scope, from fabrication to field services

  • Designing a compliant EMS tailored to their real-world workflows

  • Onboarding and re-engaging new internal team members as the project evolved

  • Tracking progress across departments and documentation streams

  • Offering adaptive guidance without disrupting GENESYS’s business model

  • Preparing the company for external audit readiness and long-term EMS sustainability

Client Perspective

Client Background:
GENESYS is a Systems Integrator. The company designs custom automated production systems and machinery for manufacturing systems. We fabricate elements that may not yet exist, then install those pieces around the world to produce a system solution that enhances quality, efficiency and throughput, with a timely and positive ROI. We are a Design & Engineering firm, specializing in Fabrication & Procurement, Installation Services, & Manufacturing Automation Services.

Challenge:
The company had never had any ISO exposure thus, no experience in how to tackle the compliance world of ISO 14001-2015. Alex was instrumental in learning our business, processes, Manufacturing & Field Services, and guiding us to compliance over several months. Our internal team changed over a few times and Alex was able to pivot and bring people up to speed as they were onboarded.

Solution:
Alex’s ability to track progress and work directly with our systems and literature made the world of difference.
Never did he tell us how we should change our business, but rather how we should look at how our processes and practices could be adapted towards compliance. He was always on time for our meetings and was very patient through the process.

Outcomes:
We passed the ISO 14001-2015 with very minimal corrective action. Alex followed up after the audit to ensure our EMS Workbook was updated and outlined a clear path to maintenance.

Experience:
Alex was a pleasure to work with. He is polite, professional, and excels at time management. The results speak for themselves, we passed our first audit and have a clear roadmap on how to maintain compliance.

Recommendation:
For any companies going through ISO for the first time, I would not suggest doing it without Alex’s oversight. It will be worth your time and money, both of which Alex respects very much.

Results

  • Successfully passed ISO 14001:2015 certification audit on the first attempt

  • Built a compliant Environmental Management System (EMS) without overhauling core operations

  • Minimal corrective actions required, demonstrating system strength

  • Created a living EMS workbook and a documented roadmap for ongoing maintenance

  • Enhanced team understanding and ownership despite staff turnover
